A confident Council?
OUSU COUNCIL WILL vote on Friday on its second reading of a 'No Confidence' motion against R. Adam Storch, Vice-President Graduates-elect.
A motion against Storch was passed at OUSU Council two weeks ago, but according to the OUSU constitution there needs to be a further vote against him, followed by a referendum of graduates, to remove him from office.
The saga began when Storch was elected unopposed to the post of Vice-President (Graduates), following the Proctors' decision to overrule OUSU Returning Officer Tony Lord's decision to declare Storch's nomination invalid.
Friday's motion is proposed by President-elect Ruth Hunt. She alleges that Storch's manifesto pledges - such as to "lead graduates out of OUSU and abolish my own position" - are inconsistent with the declaration he signed upon the submission of his application, which obliges him to fulfil his job description. The motion adds that, given that voters had no re-open nominations (RON) option, the union would be "neglecting their responsibilities to graduates" if they accepted Storch's election.
A further motion, proposed by Storch, is to have a referendum on graduate membership of OUSU.
Hunt claimed that it was not the right time to hold such an election, and that the matter had already been considered in college MCRs in Michaelmas 1998.
Storch refused to comment.
