Clark exits in style

THE PENULTIMATE CROSS-COUNTRY college league race of the season took place last week, with characteristically bad weather conditions in force, writes Bethan Hopewell.

The ladies were the first to race with New College medic Megan Clark making an early charge to the front. For what was to be Megan's final college league race of her 9 year OUCCC career she was determined to be the victor. In full training for the London Marathon there was no chance that Clark was going to be caught in the later stages of the race.

The men's race went off at a hasty pace after some dirty false starting tactics by men's captain Nick Talbot. The real battle however, was between the Watterson twins. Watterson S powered past Watterson M during the first lap of The Parks and despite some angry tussling finished 6 seconds clear. John Parker put in a strong performance to come third.

Several OUCCC members then travelled to Nottingham on Saturday to take part in the National Intercounties, which were also the trials for the World Championships. The highlight of the day came from last year's OUCCC women's captain Ellen Leggate, who put in a storming performance to finish in fifth position. This secured her a place on the team for the world champs.
