Express accuses OxStu

By Rodrigo Davies

THE OXFORD STUDENT has been accused of trying to drive Chelsea Clinton out of Oxford by the Sunday Express. In a recent article, journalist Keith Perry claimed that the newspaper had made "cruel jibes" and "personal attacks" on Clinton, pointing particularly to one article which asked "which is the best Chelsea Clinton chat-up line for next year?"

Featured in the Sunday Express two weeks ago, the article also suggested that "a cruel mocking campaign" had ensued in the wake of Chelsea's article for Talk magazine. It went on to attribute her unhappiness to her inability to "fit in with Oxford's notoriously fickle set."

The Oxford Student's editors, who will be making a formal complaint to the Sunday Express, have issued a joint statement in response to the allegations: "We are extremely disturbed by the Sunday's Express allegations, which have no basis in fact. We believe our coverage of Chelsea last term was balanced and when there has been a story, we've covered it. When there hasn't been a story, we've left her alone as we would any other student. We are surprised that no editors were contacted during research for this article."
