Armed Robbery on High Street

By Amanda Plimmer

POLICE ARE HUNTING a bank robber who escaped last week with a four-figure sum from NatWest's Cornmarket branch in Oxford.

The crime took place at 10:30 last Friday morning. This week the police have released CCTV images of the man in the hope that a member of the public will recognise him, hopefully leading to his arrest.

The man threatened staff with a concealed weapon, although no actual gun was seen and no-one was hurt in the incident.

Armed police were called to the scene and started an immediate search of the area, aided by a police helicopter.

The suspect is described as a white male, more than 6ft 2ins tall and of medium build. He is aged in his late 20s or early 30s and was wearing a long dark woollen overcoat and a Russian-style hat. Police warn that this man is not to be approached by the public.

Anyone who may have seen a man fitting this description should contact Oxford CID on 01865 266333, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
