Hertford Despair As Teddy Triumph
IN A PROVERBIAL six-pointer between two teams in the upper echelons of the league, there was no fairytale ending for Hertford as their technical beauty was convincingly crushed by the Teddy Hall beast.
Sport: Tough Tour For Blues
Day 1: 5:30 am, Saturday January 5th 2002, 15 members of the Blues Ice Hockey team congregated at Gloucester Green. After an eight-hour flight we arrived at our final destination: Toronto. There was little time to rest before the first game of the tour against the Old Blues team. After twenty-four hours without sleep the team stepped onto the ice for what would prove to be a tough battle. The game was well refereed and a fair result ensued as a younger, fitter Blues side prevailed with an 8-6 victory over a better looking, more experienced Old Blues team....
Sport: Rugby Tour Ends in Triumph
THEY MAY NOT have left their hearts in San Francisco, but OUWRFC certainly left their mark on the city after what was a highly successful mid-season tour.
Sport: Blues Boat Announced
THE WOMEN'S BLUE Boat 2002 was selected on Saturday 1st Week (20th Jan).
Sport: College Football Round-up
PROBABLY THE BIGGEST story this week is Trinity's 7-2 win over St. Peter's at the foot of the Second Division writes Graham Webber. A Hat-Trick by man of the match Dave McCourt with goals coming from his head, left and right foot, helped Trinity off the foot of the table
Sport: Seven Up Lincoln Triumph
HAVING WON THEIR first league match for twenty months in their last match of last term, Lincoln went on to keep their first clean sheet for almost 22 whilst handing out a crushing defeat to a presumably weakened Exeter side at Bartlemas on Friday.
Sport: Sporting Thoughts
IN THE EARLY hours of Sunday morning, Britain's Tim Henman crashed out of the Australian Open to Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman, a man ranked nearly fifty places below the British number one.
Sport: Cyprian Double N-jammas Wadham's Victory Hopes
Magdalen may be away and gone at the top of the Premier Division, but with second place still up for grabs, and third wide open, both of these sides needed a victory if they were to maintain their marches up the table. In the context of the season, therefore, the result did little to help either side. In isolation, however, the game provided an entertaining tussle between two evenly matched teams. Wadham are probably a slightly better side but on the day Mansfield-Merton proved equal to the challenges posed by them. Wadham tried to use the full width of the pitch in order to break the opposition defence whilst Mansfield-Merton looked to use the centre of the field in order to utilise the talents of their powerful striker Cyprian Njamma. He it was who scored both goals following two virtually identical runs through the heart of the Wadham defence. It would be wrong to give the picture of Mansfield-Merton being a one-man team but it must be said that the bulk of the chances created fell to Njamma who was unlucky to miss out on a hat trick. Wadham, however, looked a better team going forwards but came up against resolute and well-organised defence throughout. Either side could have won, and indeed had chances to do so, but in the end a draw was probably a fair result.
Sport: Oxford awesome against Keele
HOPING FOR A tough warm-up match before the upcoming final three crucial BUSA group matches, we were left rather disappointed. Though a 12-1 victory is always a good confidence booster, it is perhaps fair to say that the Keele side were not quite the strongest of opponents.
Sport: Sadincki saves Queen's in super six goal thriller
QUEEN'S AND BALLIOL were equally cursed and blessed in this enthralling relegation clash and in the end took an equal share of the points. Both sides were dogged by serious defensive weakness but were fortunate enough to have sufficient quality in attack to capitalise on their opponents' all too frequent errors....
