Biden makes Fastnet history
Ed Biden is the first ever Oxford University vs Cambridge entry to the Fastnet race (a big offshore yacht race) for 2003 writes Rachel Armstrong.
The race is 605 miles, takes 4 days and requires you to compete in qualifying events such as cross channel races.
It attracts crews from around the world, and in the two years that Ed has already competed (it is held biennially) he has never come across a student crew, let alone a student run campaign. Attempts to raise money for the project are underway (about £30k needs to be raised) with the campaign hosting a ball for 500 people at the Town Hall in association with Accenture (having won their Venture Capital Challenge 2001) and the group have started the Varsity Night at the Studio which is now one of the most popular Wednesday nights out.
The ball will have further sporting links as several Olympic athletes will be there. Further information can be obtained from Ed Biden at Magdelen.
