Diversity week
Throughout this week, a series of special events are being organised by OUSU in order to promote the understanding of issues of equality, discrimination and diversity.
Designed as a "synthesis of several of our campaigns and campaigning groups" OUSU intend to raise the profile of clubs and societies including the Black Caucus and the LGB society as well as university staff who work on equality issues.
Working with a number of organisations outside the University with the aim of extending links with the local community, OUSU also hopes to set the diversity agenda for the coming year.
The week's events will culminate in a fireworks display at Merton Pavilion, Manor Road, and a march through Oxford city centre this Saturday, "aiming for a festival atmosphere."
There have been a series of lectures on specific issues throughout the week including 'Disabilities Day' on Monday and a couple of queer rights events on Tuesday and today.
On Friday night there will be a "Pride Not Prejudice" bop at St. Cross college with a capacity of approximately 200. The other large entz event this week, which OUSU V-Ps are hoping many will attend, is the women's cabaret at St. Hilda's which is also open to men.
There has been some comment as to whether the week would have been better served by fewer events, better publicized - concerns dismissed by OUSU.
