A packed chamber was treated to more than it expected last Thursday night when Louis Theroux turned up at the Union media debate.

The renowned documentary maker, who was most recently seen tracking the lives of Neil and Christine Hamilton during the sex allegations made against them, was there to film part of a programme shadowing the life of the infamous publicist Max Clifford.

Clifford was attending the Union as the final guest speaker to oppose the motion that 'The Media Has More Power Than Politicians.'

He spoke openly of his close relationship to now Prime Minister Tony Blair prior to the general election in 1997. He also talked about the ever-popular Pop Idols. He memorably stated that he was: "Selling a show called Pop Idol by making Simon Cowell pretend to be something he isn't."

Mr Clifford spoke alongside Amanda Platell, ex-spin doctor for William Hague and Jon Snow, presenter of the news on Channel 4.

Snow added drama to the occasion by arriving late from London on his motorbike. He then delivered a very rousing speech on the weaknesses of both the media and politicians.

CNN's Robin Oakley, Editor of the Independent Simon Kelner, and Conservative MP Boris Johnson spoke firmly in proposition of the motion.

The speakers both for and against the motion were all well received, with several Union members commenting on the high standard of the debate, which again saw the chamber packed to capacity.

In addition to attending the debate, Mr Theroux still found time to peruse his copy of the latest edition of the OxStu whilst in the Chamber, commenting that it was "very good."
