Will wins

Oxford students have been celebrating this week after Will was named ITV's Pop Idol, writes Rodrigo Davies.

Last week the OxStu reported that JCR Presidents around the university have been rallying support for the former Exeter University student. Those in support are understood to have watched Saturday's final programme avidly, and even made 'multiple phone calls' to vote for Will.

In Saturday's final Will trounced the other remaining finalist, Gareth, with a staggering 4.6 million votes. The level of demand for online voting was so high at several points during the evening that the Pop Idol website became unavailable to users. Oxford interest in the event was so high that at some colleges students were seen excitedly leaving bops to watch the final.

Will, however, was not too overawed by the experience and is understood to be very excited about his prospects for a career in the music industry: "I am so ready, so up for it in a big way."
