Oxford Dancers Victorious

The Oxford Dancesport team recorded a third crushing victory of the year at a national competition in Sheffield on Saturday 17th Feb.

Having caused the competition start to be delayed by two hours after arriving late because of traffic, the Oxford team had a lot of work to do to impose on the fourteen other universities.

These included a particularly strong team from Sheffield, and our traditional top rivals Imperial College and the Tabs.

With the judging panel rushing to catch up with the day's timetable there were a few odd and disappointing decisions seen, but in general the afternoon competitions were very successful for Oxford.

The beginners team totally dominated their field as usual with over half of the finalists in each dance coming from the Oxford team.

Particular congratulations go to Tomas Hellebrandt (Balliol) and Marianna Ofosu (Christ Church) for winning both the Latin dances, and also to Chris Vessey (Somerville) and Cecile Defosse (Queens) for winning both the ballroom dances.

In the evening team match Oxford demolished their opponents with top 3 placings in all four categories, including wins in the Waltz - Peter Nixey (Green) & Jane Higgins (Lincoln) - and Quickstep - Nick Faull (Trinity) & Jumin Wong (St. Peters).

Overall Oxford won the A, B, C, D, E and F team trophies (all that were available), came first in all the beginner competitions and scored highly in every open competition.

The only honour we failed to achieve this year was to win the Team Knockout Cup competition, which went to Imperial.
