Women's Rugby Century
The Blues finished the group stages of the BUSA Halifax Championships in style, with an awesome 100-0 victory over Harper Adams.
The match was as one-sided as the score-line suggests, with the Blues dominating every area of the game.
The first half saw an especially strong performance by the forwards, with flanker Kate Smith scoring her first try for the Blues.
Sophie Herden scored an excellent hat trick in the first half, then repeated the achievement in the second, contributing an outstanding 30 points to the Blues' overall total.
There was some excellent kicking from hand by fly half Keshena Richards, who rounded off an excellent personal performance with a try, and second rows Rachel Mawle and Myfanwy Taylor totally dominated the lineout.
This solid platform gave the backs the opportunity to exploit their pace, with replacement Mary Stewart scoring two tries from the left wing, and Alice Taylor scoring from inside centre. Kate Ashbridge then scored an excellent hat trick from the other wing, the last of which was the result of a textbook handoff.
A well-executed back row move led to a try for number 8 Karen Jones, who was impressive throughout the match.
She was then joined on the scoresheet by fellow forwards Laura Mace and Leslie Mackrell, which put the Blues 84-0 up with just over five minutes remaining.
Sophie Herden provided the two tries required, and Gemma Saffhill added the crucial last minute conversion to bring up the century.
The match, although one of the most comfortable games they are likely to play, provided an excellent boost to confidence as the Blues progressed to the knockout stages of BUSA.
