Student in Park End attack

By James Murray

A man has appeared in court last Friday after allegedly attacking an Oxford student in Park End.

The student, who wishes not to be named, had been enjoying a night out after a university rugby league game, when a squaddie, who had been let into the club despite the fact that Wednesday is student night, is alleged to have punched him in the face.

The student was surprised by the events, describing the attack, which knocked out one of his teeth and killed the nerve in another, as "completely unprovoked and unexpected".

Despite leaving the club immediately after the attack, the squaddie was later picked up by the police and appeared in court last Friday.

A spokesperson for Park End has commented that under normal circumstances a group of non-students, such as those involved in the attack, would not have been let into the club. This is owing to the fact that it is club policy to allow only one non-student per group on the guest list for a student night.

The management has assured The Oxford Student that this rule will be far more strictly enforced in future so as to prevent similar problems in the future.
