Green Man Dusting
A BALLIOL PSYCHOLOGY professor has been retraining as a dustman.
Mike Woodin, a Green City Councillor for Oxford Central Ward, and Council Executive Member for the Environment and Health, took time out on Tuesday to learn the new job.
Woodin, who will also be getting up early every morning next week to go out on the dustbin and recycling rounds, feels that his new role is in keeping with his own green views on the environment.
Mike Woodin told The Oxford Student that: "There are a lot of changes ahead in the way we deal with the City's rubbish. We're extending the recycling scheme to colleges for example, and new targets are being set all the time. I want to get hands on experience so that our policy decisions take the needs of the staff into account."
He also added that he's not worried about whether he will be up to the task: "I'm looking forward to the early morning fresh air. It'll remind me of my rowing days and should be a good break from marking essays."
