Teddy Hall golf course?

By Sonia Clarke

Traditional college rivalries were revived last week when New College JCR passed a motion to buy Teddy Hall for the purposes of building a new golf course or paint-balling venue.

Proposed by the alarmingly named 'Beast' and seconded by Kumaran Adithyan, the motion mandates Oliver Wilson, New's Treasurer, to offer the sum of £5.07 for the grounds. Should this bid be refused, he is instructed to offer £5.06, and, should this second bid fail, to "take over Teddy Hall by force."

The official reasons given for the take-over attempt were financial difficulties and the need for more storage space. In addition, Wilson commented that "Teddy Hall are twats, especially at rugby matches, who should know their place"

Oliver Petter, JCR president of Teddy Hall, admitted finding the motion "vaguely amusing", but expressed concern that the "image put forward of a college full of undergraduates dressed in tweed and plus fours enjoying a quick round before lunch" could pose problems for the Access scheme.
