Black and Blue

Black and Blue

Gown and Town notched up two wins each in passionately fought match-up at the Oxford Union. The blood-thirsty crowd, all the more raucous after being made to wait for nearly an hour, were treated to seven bouts of boxing. If truth be told, only four bouts had a competitor from the University, and those representing 'town' came from places as far off as Cardiff, but none from Oxford. Oxford's Higgins never really got going in a frantic encounter with Gloucester boxer Davis, he was knocked out within 30 seconds. Kelly had better luck against his opponent from the Military Academy in Sandhurst. The fight was eventually stopped by the referee in the third and final round, as Kelly's dominance threatened to get become dangerous. Mosely failed to secure his first win against the older and more experienced, London boxer Cragnetty, retiring after the second round. The match of the night, however, was undoubtedly the heavyweight contest between Tiernan and Scottmorgan. After literally having to jump out of the way of his opponent's flying fist, and indeed whole body, at the very start, Tiernan went on to batter and bruise the fast-tiring man in red, and knocked him out less than 20 seconds into the second round. This boxing match was worth the wait.
