Close Call

By Michael Girling

St.Peter's were narrow victors in this close contest against Pembroke in Pool B of Cupper's. Despite taking the lead, Peters were unable to break away from an impressive Pembroke side led by the talismanic Blues' fly-half Ben Honeyben.

Both sides leaked tries before a nasty injury befell the Pembroke winger, the arriving ambulance forcing the match to be relocated onto the adjacent pitch. Peter's started the better in the second half, SPC scrum half Simon Fox capitalising on a bungled Pembroke scrum on their own five-metre line. Pembroke broke back; their pack were quick to the breakdown, enabling their full-back to score a slick running try.

With the last kick of the game the SPC fly-half Somerset Pheasant secured the points for his team ensuring their fortuitous passage through to the Semi-finals. Pembroke will feel hard done by, they ought to have won this game, but Honeyben should be used to that losing feeling by now.
