Jesus Bashers

Jesus Bashers

In a fiercely contested Pool match in the parks, Teddy Hall beat off a spirited Jesus side to secure their place in the Cupper's Semi-final. Hall started the game the better, storming into a 24-0 lead in the first 25 minutes. The architect of this rugby Blitzkrieg was Hall fullback Jono Venter, scoring three skilful tries gaining the League champions the early advantage. Deft use of his boot allowed Venter the opportunity to score and his lightening pace secured the points.

Jesus fielded their Blues prop Deri Hughes who tried his best to lift his pack, and unlikely had a try disallowed in the dying moments of the second half. The men in green did bounce back with a superb solo effort from Matt Benjamin. Picking the ball up in his own half, Benjamin stormed through two tackles before breaking into his stride, sprinting home for Jesus' first try of the match. For the first time in this cuppers campaign Hall looked scared as the resurgent Jesus went on to convert another try from winger Dan Powell to bring the score to 24-12 at half-time.

But Hall are a strong team, both physically and mentally, and this momentary lapse was not enough to critically rattle a side that has almost forgotten how to lose. Although the score remained constant throughout the second half none of the intensity was lost as both teams battled on to provide the shivering crowds with an exciting climax. Jesus face Worcester next week to decide which team proceeds to the Cuppers' shield semi-final.
