THE UNIVERSITY RUGBY League side continued their Varsity Match preparations with a 52-4 victory over the London Skolars second team on Saturday. On paper the London pro-side looked the likely victors, with a squad oozing experience and aggression. The students however, managed to compete and win the physical competition around the ruck. With their superior pace and handling skills, they were able to produce some sensational tries.

Although the University side were using this match to test various combinations for the Varsity match on the 5 March, they managed to hold their shape. Particularly impressive on the day were Luke Hanson and Robbie Walker - the former's hat-trick was ample proof of his talent, whereas the latter was responsible for much of the students' fast and varied pattern.

The score line suggests the students were rampant, and indeed in the closing stages they were, however this belies the considerable solid defensive work the Skolars put in for much of the first half. A great fixture, and one that bodes well for the showdown with Cambridge!
