Chancellor demands

By Zoe Flood

OUSU HAS CREATED a "Chancellor Statement" which candidates for the University Chancellorship will be given the opportunity to sign in order to show solidarity with Oxford students.

The statement, released on Monday, outlines basic commitments expected from the Chancellor, including a rejection of fees and an emphasis on access.

Current undergraduates will not qualify to vote in the upcoming elections for the positions, but OUSU believes that as the University figurehead, the views of the Chancellor should be in line with those of the students.

Will Straw, OUSU President, said: "Although the Chancellor may have little direct influence, the post is still the highest in academia, and as such, it is necessary that he or she have the interests of the students at heart."
