New deal for poor
POORER STUDENTS MAY breathe a sigh of relief this week as education secretary Charles Clarke suggested that the proposed £3,000 top-up fee could be waived entirely for poorer students.
The original plans have been widely criticised for still discriminating in favour of richer candidates.
Further measures to ease the financial burden have been suggested, including extending the London weighting to the whole of the South East.
