Slave Trade

By Chris Harris

Queen's annual slave auction last Friday has raised a staggering £1,851 - almost a fifth as much as RAG raised in the entire University over the whole of last year.

Students packed the Beer Cellar to bid on a number of lots, ranging from having JCR President Stewart Robinson as a slave for the day, to a guest appearance as a top-trump in the College magazine.

The highest bid last year was £180, but that was easily surpassed by no less than 3 bids, including a weekend in Ireland, and a "mystery prize" from two freshers. But the biggest bid of the night was a flabberghasting £300 for a night at the Opera with Organ Scholar Dan Turner.

In all over 40 people contributed, as either buyers or sellers, to the massive total, which will go towards a children's charity.
