Too Easy
For the second week in a row the veracity of Cherwell's front page story has been called into question. The banner headline story last week which claimed that forty students had fallen ill due to "wide-scale poisoning" following formal hall in Somerville, has been slammed by the College as "unbalanced" scare-mongering.
A Somerville source told the OxStu that early indications given by the medical samples collected from those who had been effected showed overwhelmingly negative results for bacterial infection, therefore backing up the college's claim that it was caused by an airborne virus.
President of Somerville JCR, Roberto Montanari, lambasted Cherwell for its "shoddy sensationalism" stating "that it was far from clear from some of the information that was passed onto them that the incident was food related".
Student opinion at Somerville seemed to accept that it wasn't the fault of the caterers, with one student comparing dining in hall to getting on an airplane the day after a crash- "I was scared at first but ended up having a lovely meal".
Josh Goodman, Editor of the Cherwell, told the OxStu: "I'm pleased Somerville students can eat in college without worrying."
