More fees for Post-Grads?
Concern is growing among students over the possibility of increased fees for graduates.
The University is recommending that all colleges charge continuation fees to graduates after their third year. Currently, only graduates in about half of the colleges pay continuation fees of between £40 and £495 for their forth year onwards. The university has recommended that all colleges charge these fees, which cover overheads, such as hall and the cost of the lodge.
"When graduates are finishing their course, this extra debt is the last thing they need," said Andy Garlick, OUSU VP (Graduates), "it could seriously damage their ability to complete their course." OUSU currently has policy against continuation fees, which it sees as undermining the meritocratic nature of graduate degrees.
