Not-so-Purple Turtle

By Aaron Sokoloff

UNRESOLVED ACCUSATIONS OF HOMOPHOBIA at the Purple Turtle were raised at the Union's Consultative Committee Meeting this Monday.

On standing committee member called attention to a 'zero-tolerance policy' for same-sex couples, noting that such couples have often been forced to leave for displaying their affection for one another. The PT's general manager, however, told the OxStu that "the only zero tolerance policy is for abuse of gay couples", adding that "no nudity or getting 'too hot and heavy' will be tolerated regardless of gender".

Union President Fraser Campbell was unaware of the problem but stated that acceptance of such couples should be 'implied by our status as students,' and resolved to deal with such complaints on an individual basis.

The Oxford University Students Union has claimed to be already familiar with an informal but consistent hostility by the PT staff toward same-sex couples.

Mel Marshall, OUSU VP (Women), has expressed the importance of an inclusive environment, especially in the light of PT's current attempt to promote itself as a daytime venue for the activities of student clubs and societies.
