Bhutanese Prince returns

The Prince of Bhutan will be returning to Oxford University as war in his nation approaches an end.

Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck made global headlines in Michaelmas as he left St Peter's College, where he was a fresher studying Modern History and Politics, to return home to prepare for the first war in Bhutan since 1865.

Speaking from Bhutan to The OxStu, Wangchuck claimed "it was almost perfect" regarding efforts to flush out rebels illegally residing in the forests of the Himalayan enclave, who had set up training camps to launch attacks on India. However, latest reports claim that around 200 militants remain stranded in the jungle.

"I want to find time to learn more about Bhutan", he said regarding his plans before re-starting his degree next October.

Last month Wangchuck was falsely reported by the press to have sustained bullet injuries. Officials denied the reports, saying that he was not leading the offensive, instead being a militia member guarding vital installations such as power plants and development infrastructure.

Professor Bernard Silverman, Master of St Peter's College, told The OxStu: "I am really delighted that Jigyel has completed his military service safely and that he will be back with us as a student next October. He gave me a really good impression even in the short time he was here in 2003 and we are looking forward to great things in the future."
