Ice Cool Blues

Ice Cool Blues

The six week break from training didn't show as the Blues started the term with a 6-0 win. Winger Felicity Bulmer gave the Blues an early lead when she received a pass from defender Dominique Chaput, carried it all the way up the ice and her wrist shot soared over the goalie's arm. Only seconds later Kristina Duffin passed to winger Lisa Villeneuve whose wraparound gave the Blues a 2-0 lead.

The second period saw continued pressure on the Bears' net from the Blues, but some solid goaltending kept denying the Blues goals. Eventually the first line's excellent communication paid off, as Bulmer fired the puck across the net to captain Cath Rothon who slammed it into the top of the goal. Rothon's second goal soon followed, assisted by centre Jamie Waller and Chaput. Blues netminder Andrea Cummins was not idle, as several breakaways by the Bears caused tense moments, but Cummins remained solid, foiling all their efforts.

The Blues continued to skate hard and talk well in the third period, with Rothon passing across the net to an unmarked Waller, who sneaked the puck past netminder Michelle Walker. Minutes later, Waller finished a rush up the ice with a beautiful wrist shot high into the net. Oxford defence Sahar Gordiz, Susan Barber and Natalie Roberts managed to hold the Bears off the Oxford net, which then allowed Cummins her first shutout of the season.
