Queen in Oxford tomorrow

The Queen will visit Oxford tomorrow to open the new £60 million state of the art Chemistry Research Laboratory on South Parks Road.

The laboratory will provide around 17,000 square metres of research facilities for 30 independent groups and over 200 graduate students.

According to the University's Chemistry Chairman, Graham Richards, the new facility is testimony to the fact that "despite reports of departments closing at other universities across the UK, Chemistry at Oxford has never been in better shape".

Her Majesty, accompanied by Prince Philip, will first unveil the newly built, Cowley-located, Douglas House, a hospice specifically for youngsters over the age of 16 suffering from life threatening illnesses.

From there she will make her way to the new chemistry laboratory, before heading to Abingdon, where she will complete her visit by opening the newly built complex of the anti-virus software company Sophos.
