Oriel march on
Oriel's JCR members went on a rampage across Oxford this week, following a motion passed earlier this term, in which it was decided that their 6th week meeting should be held at rival college Corpus Christi.
Last Sunday evening around 40 Orielenses thus attempted to invade their traditionally hostile neighbour, only to find the doors locked and barricaded against them. It appeared that the Corpus porters had got wind of their plans (which had been extensively advertised within Oriel) and several lucky Oriel students only narrowly managed to escape a bucket of water thrown from an upper floor window.
Undeterred, the Oriel ranks headed on to Merton, where they gained entry; but were again halted by College staff, as Merton porters moved swiftly to close the lodge.
The next stop was Christ Church for the roaming JCR, although this time the Oriel army chose to sneak in through the backdoor. They were able to proceed with motions "as usual" for a full ten minutes, before being chased on to Pembroke where the meeting was concluded. Official business was followed by a brief incursion into the college, during which the Oriel anthem of Pulp's "Common People" was sung, whilst Oriel scarves were waved through the window of Pembroke's rather more conventional JCR meeting.
The march was led by Adam Reid, JCR President, who told The OxStu: "The spirit in our JCR is fantastic - it makes me very proud!"
