Nomination Invalidated

By Gemma Varley

Union rules have come to haunt a student once more, as Vladimir Bermant's nomination for Secretary of the Oxford Union was invalidated this week due to outstanding library fines of £1.70, writes Gemma Varley.

The President of the Union, Edward Tomlinson, told The OxStu: "There is no ambiguity in the rules in this regard; anyone who has debts outstanding to the society simply cannot nominate for a position inside the Union."

Bermant has since paid the fines, even though he still believes that he may have cleared the debt already. This claim has yet to be verified.
