SPC reaffiliates to OUSU

St Peter's College has voted to reaffiliate to OUSU, in a referendum held last Friday.

The college's previous attempt to hold a referendum at the end of Michaelmas term was derailed by claims of electoral malpractice and unfair procedure. Friday, however, saw a successful vote in which a two-thirds majority voted to reaffiliate to the student union.

The St Peter's JCR president, Rosalind Morgan, told The OxStu: "I was very pleased about the outcome of the vote, as I believe it is in the interests of the JCR to be

affiliated."

But Greg Stafford, a third year and Finalist Officer for the College, suggested that the turnout of only 73 out of almost 400 JCR members is evidence of student apathy towards the issue of reaffiliation.

He told The OxStu: "St Peter's has much policy that is in direct conflict with OUSU policy. I'm sad that we reaffiliated, as OUSU will think it has won a victory when all it has done has stopped a few of the troops from deserting."
