A LINCOLN FIRST year got a nasty shock when he followed a link to a north Wales Conservative website and found he was directed to hard-core pornography. The student was concerned that he would face disciplinary action from his college and immediately contacted the authorities. Welsh tories have alleged that political opponents were responsible for the glitch in the site, and insist it is not part of a more liberal Conservative policy on sex.

Language of love

HERTFORD LANGUAGE student Anna Soderstrom is at the heart of a celebrity love scandal. According to the Daily Mail, the Swedish third year is having an affair with 62 year-old former Monty Python star Terry Jones. It is believed that the affair has led to the break-up of Jones's marriage and the couple are now cohabiting in London.

Better treatment

Students from state schools will receive preferential treatment during the admissions process, Cambridge University has this week confirmed. Guidance to admissions tutors across the university advises that students who achieve 7A grade GCSEs at a poorly performing state school be treated as the equivalent to 8A* grades from a student who attended a 'highly selective school'. Oxford University have stated they have no intentions to follow such a policy

Remembrance

A secular and reflective evening to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, is being organised by OUSU. A vigil on Broad Street and a memorial service at the Holloway Music Room are at the centre of the plans. Ethics Committee co-chair Tom Dale told said the events would concentrate on ethnic conflict throughout the world.

Oxford zoologists have discovered that young Caledonian crows have the ability to make and use tools, without having been taught how to do so from adult crows. The research, published last week, found the crows to be 'prolific' tool users.
