Blue winning streak rolls on

By Laura Godwin

Oxford's third game in quick succession was an away trip to Warwick. Having played this team last term and having lost, a much improved Blues team arrived with a point to prove.

From the kick-off Oxford set the pace, with strong attacking moves and various goal scoring opportunities.

Mid-way through the first half Oxford took the lead with a classic counter attacking move.

Ricky Tavares sprayed a ball out wide to captain Mark Addley at right back. He then rolled in James Forrest down the right who fizzed a ball across the area. Tavares arrived at the back post and scored in the bottom corner with a diving header.

Oxford continued to take charge of the game, and were rewarded with their second goal.

Again after another flowing move Matt Rigby netted a volley from the edge of the area which although not cleanly struck, found the corner of the net.

Late on in the first half Oxford gave away a penalty. Warwick's captain Jan Balon missed thanks to a superb save from Nick Baker. 2-0 to Oxford at the break.

The second half was much the same as the first. Oxford dominated the game and Con Griffin had a very impressive match in midfield.

Despite being camped inside their half, the score remained 2-0 until the final whistle.

The Blues will be very happy with this result which extends their winning streak to six matches.

They now face a tough test against Oxford Brookes on Wednesday in BUSA, yet on recent performances Oxford will be entering the game full of confidence.
