Mugged for 95p
Ex-Wadham SU president, John Jenkins, was confronted and mugged for 95p last Friday night as he walked along the Cowley Road.
Jenkins, a History finalist, left a party on James Street at around 1.45am and was making his way back into Oxford centre when "three big blokes who were standing on the pavement" approached him, with another "two blokes hanging around in the shadows."
"I was limping heavily from a footballing injury sustained the previous day so realised I had better do what they said or risk an absolute kicking." After being ordered to hand over his money, Jenkins replied that unfortunately he only had 95p and emptied his pockets.
However it seems that Jenkins had the last laugh: "The joke was on them. I still had another quid in my back pocket."
Cowley Road is a popular area for student accommodation, and has been voted in an Oxford Student poll as being the 'best place to live out'. In recent years however, a number of thefts and muggings have lessened its appeal.
