Hair today, gone tomorrow
A Balliol Student has shed 18 inches of hair to help raise money for the Tsunami Relief Fund.
3rd year Historian Christopher 'Skilly' Skillicorn underwent the dramatic makeover as part of a programme of JCR led fundraising events that raised over £1750 for those affected in the Boxing Day tragedy.
Former JCR President Dan Cooper conducted a charity auction in the college's general meeting which prompted two other students to submit themselves to the razor as well.
Skilly's hairdo, which had been carefully cultivated for over three years, proved particularly resistant to all attempts to cut it and the process was strung out over three days.
Skilly refused to disparage the professional competence of his barbers. "It's been my best haircut for three years," he pointedly observed.
Skilly later admitted to The Oxford Student that he felt "powerless" without his notorious silky locks.
A grand hall dinner, held in conjuction with the MCR and SCR, as well as collections in the college pantry and bar, contributed to the large total raised for charity.
