New name
The latest edition of The Peterphile, St Peter's JCR's irreverent college newspaper, has been renamed El Pedrophile by its editors after the Master of the college raised concerns that some members of the college might find its title offensive.
The temporary name-change has allowed members of the JCR to submit ideas for a new name for the paper, though co-editor Kevin Crowley told The Oxford Student: "It doesn't necessarily mean we are going to change the name."
However during a general meeting about the newspaper, the Master, Professor Bernard Silverman, raised the issue of the paper's name.
Crowley insisted he and fellow editor Paul Sims were "not put under any pressure" to change the name and that the decision "was left entirely up to the editors."
El Pedrophile, which came out last Friday is only a temporary name for the paper. Crowley conceded that the connotations remained but stated the editors were "not considering keeping the current title."
Despite repeated requests, the Master of St Peter's declined to comment to The Oxford Student.
