OUSU sense of humour failure as prank goes tits up
Uproar occurred in OUSU towers last week when a prank pulled by members of the Exec and the staff of this newspaper was taken a little too far. In revenge for a hoax played by the OUSU executive last term, when a whole day was wasted chasing a non-existent story, three members of the OUSU exec and the OxStu staff decided to mock-up a page entitled ‘tit college of the week’.
In a blatant rip-off of Cherwell’s famous ‘fit college of the week’, photos of two naked women were super-imposed on pictures of Wadham and Somerville. A member of the OxStu staff was promptly dispatched to see Ellie Cumbo, Vice- President (Women), with a copy of the offending piece. Cumbo called VP (Finance) Chris Allan who assured her it was not a hoax.
She then told several other sabs, including VP (Welfare) Aidan Randle-Conde, before discussing the matter with the Proctor’s Office and the Computing Service. After two hours they were informed it was a hoax, but instead of seeing the joke decided to issue a complaint to OUSU complaints board, fostering a thread on OxGoss.
Conde said, “I was not amused”, but an anonymous OUSU source said “If we weren’t £110K in debt, I would hope the people involved would have a better sense of humour.” All parties have now apologised, the complaint has been retracted and calm reigns supreme.
