Sports Fed. Running
Oxford involvement in national student sport has taken a leap forward with the creation of the Oxford University Sports Federation. Now fully up and running it has set out ambitious plans to benefit University Sport, great and small.
Last term saw the election of the University's first ever Sports Sabbatical, Serena Gosling, who is now heading up the fledgling organisation. The Federation intends to provide a range of services to University sides and provide a central Sports Federation for contact with other Universities.
Future plans include setting up a Sports Federation website with links to club pages, up-to-date contact information and results and fixtures. Oxford has suffered in recent years, in comparison with other universities, from a lack of co-ordination between its many teams. With any number of Blues and second-team sides in operation, collating accurate information and results and previously been a haphazard operation. The new Federation hopes to eventually offer a comprehensive information service which will allow students to easily find out the latest University sports news.
At the moment the Federation is already offering several new services. The purchase of a digital video camera with which to take pictures of teams in action for the website or for publication has already had an impact. The Oxford Student is among several publication to have benefitted from the ease with which images of teams in action can not be produced. The Federation liases with BUSA for British inter-varsity competition and is currently seeking out new sponsorship.
