The infamous St Peter's plaque - saved from the wreckage of the OUBC blaze by a rooftop Romeo - was this week handed back to its rightful owners by the Oxford Student. Captain of Boats at the college, Alexander Allen, received the plaque in an historic hand-over ceremony. He thanked Editor, Barney Jones, saying it was "wonderful to have it back"....

Cardiff's lucky students societies have received a boost this month. A new shop has opened in Cardiff's Castle arcade - among its products it is offering a personalised condom service. University clubs and societies can order specially designed condoms bearing their names and logos. Johnnies is Wales' first and only condom store, with its owners describing it as a "family business for those who don't want a family." It is also the only store in Wales to sell vegan condoms - apparently milk is used in the condom washing proccess. Cardiff sources do not give details of which - if any - societies have taken up the offer....


News: OUP accused of tax offence

The ten-year old battle between author Andrew Malcolm and the Oxford University Press took another twist with allegations made in a new edition of Malcolm's book The Remedy that the OUP is contravening the terms of its tax-exempt status by funding the university rather than ploughing surpluses into unprofitable publishing like poetry and music....

"Eccentric toffs who are increasingly unaware of the realities of modern life," claims The Face magazine, of Oxbridge students. This month's issue contains an article prefaced with 'buggering toffs,' which asks: "will the dusty academic institutions ever solve their image problem?"

A former Oxford student was found dead after hanging himself from Magdalen Bridge. Graham Sheppard, 27, was a past student at Oxford Brookes, living in East Oxford. The inquest has only recently taken place into the death which occurred two months ago. The body was found trapped between punts on September 3rd.
