Over 600 Edinburgh freshers have volunteered to snog for science as part of a university's study into glandular fever. Edinburgh Doctors recently received a £700,000 grant to find out why 5% of students contract the disease. Professor Dorothy Crawford, who is leading the study said, that the keen volunteers were "clearly committed to supporting today's research to help the students of tomorrow"....

News: Oh yes, Oxford has more class

It's official: Oxford is more upper class than that Fenland Polytechnic of East Anglia. Oxford had the highest proportion of students whose parents' occupations put them in social classes I and II - professional, managerial and technical. Cambridge lagged behind. They had 1% fewer class I and II students. Thames Valley and Central Lancashire Universities languish at the bottom of the toffs table.
