American apprentices torn apart
A six man Oxford-Cambridge team emerged victorious, after travelling to the States to challenge Harvard and Yale for the Prentice Cup.
The Prentice Cup is the oldest inter-collegiate tournament in the world, and takes place every two years, being held alternately in the USA and England.
The Oxbridge six secured a comprehensive victory by 14 matches to seven at the tournament in Seabright, New Jersey.
Ivan Griffin, Joerg Peltzer and Segeui Kitchatov represented Oxford for the six-week tour of the East Coast and California.
The tour included matches against both clubs and universities, culminating in a showdown against a combined Harvard-Yale team.
Peltzer, and the Cambridge number one, won all three of their doubles matches, and the Oxford man scored an impressive singles win.
Griffin won both of his singles matches, against the Yale numbers two and three, while Kitatov defeated the Yale number three.
Combined with good work from the Cambridge contingent, the efforts of the Oxford players proved enough to secure an English win, only the second in the last 30 years.
