It's about fucking time too. At last a hip-hop tune that doesn't refer to "da bling", "the ice", "my niggas", "guccis" and "da Bentley outside the mansion". 'The Light' is hip-hop at its most sensitive. There are no references to "bitches with perms". He loves his woman and he is not afraid to say it. Combine great emotional lyrics with a phat beat and what you have is a sure-fire hit.
What is refreshing about this is that he shies away from the modern, materialistic rap style. Niggas need to start keeping it real. I tuned into Westwood last week and I heard some wannabe gangsta rapper from Nottingham talking about "drive bys" and "gang banging". Please, the closest that guy had got to any criminal behaviour was nicking a loaf of bread from the local Londis. 'The Light' is one of the songs of the year. Go buy it.
