Magdalen topple leaders
IN LAST WEEK'S college football, Magdalen knocked Somerville of the top of the Premier Division by shocking them 5-1, writes Rob Devey
Double-strikes from Tom Green and Steve Elam, and a goal from Steve Free humbled last season's runners-up.
Wadham kept up the pressure with a 4-0 success at Worcester, whose miserable start continued when they lost 5-0 at Balliol on Friday.
Captain Pete Murphy netted a brace, and Shameel Danish and John Conway also struck as Dave Robinson's men fell to their fourth successive defeat.
In Division One, St.Anne's experienced mixed fortunes. Two goals from John George, and strikes from captain Darren Pettifer, Freddie Gjertsen and Tom Barkworth sent them crashing at Exeter.
But they bounced back by beating St.Hugh's 4-1 at Woodstock Road, two-a-piece from Mark Siddall and Richard Murphy securing victory after Hugh's keeper Richard Mannion had been dismissed.
Goals from Paul Bailey and Tim Bridle were not enough to prevent St.John's falling to a 4-2 defeat at Queen's.
Brasenose were on top-form to overwhelm St.Catz 6-2, with John Springett grabbing a hat-trick, and Dave Matheson, Hal Stockley and Yousself El-Gingihy also getting in on the act.
The match of the week saw Wolfson secure a dramatic 5-4 victory at Jesus, the visitors scoring the winner with virtually the last kick of the game after twice being behind.
Christ Church maintained their bright start in DivisionTwo, first securing a creditable 3-3 draw against title favourites Keble, then drubbing Regent's Park 14-0.
Pembroke also went goal-crazy, thrashing St.Peter's 9-0 at Whitehose Road. Andy Crank scored a hat-trick, Rich Clode and Jim Soland bagged two each, and Dan Tyler also got on the score-sheet.
But the goals dried up for Charlie Mortimer's side two days later, when they played out a drab goal-less draw at Corpus Linacre.
In the other games, Oriel overcame Trinity 5-2 thanks to a Daniel Alexander brace and strikes from Shaun Hannil and Fred Spears, while LMH and Univ shared the points following a 1-1 draw
