Sackler Library
SOME 250,000 VOLUMES from the former Asmolean Library and the Classics Lending Libraries have come together under one roof in the new Sackler Library.
The construction of the library, based in St John's Street, was made possible through donations from the Sackler Foundation and other donors.
Five circular reading rooms constitute the main part of the building, with a neoclassical architectural theme in the use of columns, colour, and furniture based on Greek models.
The library has room for 250 readers and also has an inner courtyard.
James Legg, Librarian at the Sackler, said: "The newly constructed Sackler Library brings Oxford's extraordinarily rich concentration of resources covering the ancient world and the culture of the medieval world together under one roof."
