THE OXFORD UNION could face fines after it emerged that the recent email lists sent to members advertising the Ice Ball were sent to some 19,000 people and are in direct contravention of the Data Protection Act and the University's own IT rules.


News: Protest on business school

Protestors occupied the roof of the newly-opened Oxford University Saïd Business School early on Monday morning, the day of its opening ceremony, demonstrating against the school's benefactor, Wafiq al Said. The Saudi billionaire donated £20 million to the building of the School, and it believed he earned his fortune through arms brokering with Saudi Arabia in 1986....

News: ID-Soc President to go

Peter Orlov, co-founder of new sexual minorities society ID-Soc, has resigned from his position as President, citing "work and other commitments". Orlov, president since the foundation of the society at the end of June, stated: "I cannot give ID the time and attention it deserves".


News: American students "appalled" at meeting

AMERICAN STUDENTS HAVE said they were "appalled" at what they percieved as a "revisionist view of history" at a meeting organised by the Oxford Stop The War Coalition and attended by Chelsea Clinton and other American students in the Town Hall last Thursday. The meeting was interrupted inside by heckling, and students have expressed disappointment at the lack of opportunity for structured contributions from the floor....

News: Cherwell saved?

the cherwell's accounts received a boost this week as Newsquest (Oxfordshire) Ltd, the company behind the Oxford Mail, announced it was stepping in to help save the Cherwell from its financial problems. The current deal will allow Newsquest to print the paper at its offices in Osney Mead for a reduced rate to save the newspaper money, and there will be plans to develop the relationship further....
