Lacrosse: Nothing between Oxford and Birmingham
THIS WAS A very close, very exciting match against one of , if not the best, teams in the division.
They had some very experienced and tactical players in attack which the defence dealt with very well throughout the match. Initially Oxford looked the superior of the two teams, and 4 minutes before half time were 5-3 up.
But, Blues let it slip in those four minutes and Birmingham scored two quick goals to equalise at half time. Oxford then went ahead again in the second half, and scored some fantastic team goals, well set up by the attack and expertly put away.
Oxford's weaknesses lay though in their sometimes lazy stickwork in midfield, and a period of play where they persistently lost the draw, thereby letting Birmingham run at them in defence.
Goalkeeper Camilla Halewood was peppered by shots in the goal, but played absolutely amazingly, and was subsequently scouted for Midland Trials by the umpire.
Overall the match was very enjoyable, although it left Oxford with several areas to work on. The team are beginning to work very well together both in attack and defence, and prospects for the second round of division matches starting this week looks good, where we will hopefully be able to come up with a win.
