Oasis, The Stone Roses, even Radiohead - many bands have been forced to contend with rock's worst enemy: not crack or celebrity wives, but a band's glorious past. Rarely has this been more the case than with Suede, whose career can be easily split into the early years, before Bernard Butler left, and the disappointing period since. True, they released a fantastic slice of britpop called Coming Up, but even this could not live up to earlier albums. The follow up, Head Music, was an acknowledged disappointment....

Oxford has something of a reputation for classical music. It has three great Choral Foundations in Magdalen, New College, and Christ Church. The roll call of composers and performers associated with the University ranges from Joseph Haydn in the 18th century to Karajan and Gillian Weir in recent years. So you would expect the groups that will be recruiting at this year's Freshers' Fair to be of a pretty high standard, made up of dedicated and skilled students, capable of giving impeccable performances of the core repertoire?
