Jesus student beaten at Bridge nightclub

DALE JOHNSON, a 4th year chemist from Jesus College, has been left unable to work in the lab for over 7 weeks after getting caught in the crossfire of a fight at The Bridge nightclub on Friday, October 4.

Johnson, 21, was pushed to the floor where a smashed pint glass damaged the tendon in his left hand, leaving him unable to work at the practical side of his degree for most of Michaelmas Term.

The injury was serious enough to warrant surgery the afternoon after the incident, with Johnson spending two days in the John Radcliffe hospital.

Just after midnight, a fight broke out in the club, with bouncers stepping in to restore order. Johnson, who happened to be standing nearby, was floored after being hit on the back of the head by someone lashing out at the bouncers.

Johnson was bemused as to why the fight started but seemed in remarkably high spirits, joking that "maybe it was because I was wearing a loud shirt."

Last year saw various violent attacks on students, including two at popular clubs and bars such as the Park End nightclub. A Regent's Park student was also stabbed repeatedly in Wellington Square in May.

A police briefing has described the assault on Dale Johnson as apparently motiveless, and have appealed for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with any information should contact Oxford Police on 01865 266000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
