Fight!
Students were given a stiff curfew on Friday night after violence broke out in the vicinity of the Pembroke Porter's Lodge.
The college rowers and alumni were holding a banquet to celebrate the Historic Double Headship. At about 2am, a fight broke out, allegedly when a visiting student took offence at a 3rd-year rower's pink bow tie. The visiting student in question reportedly claimed to have punched his victim "on the nose twice, without spilling the kebab that he was holding in his other hand".
The fight escalated as bystanders joined in, but the police were not called until several vodka bottles had been smashed in the lodge. A student bystander, rumoured to have a history of violent behaviour, but who was not involved in the fighting, was arrested. The visiting student alleged to have started the incident had fled the scene. An unnamed member of the SCR stated that, "The cops always do that, arrest somebody who has nothing to do with the crime, on the basis that they look guilty. It is fucking horrendous."
The porter on duty at the time has declined to comment, as have those present at the dinner. The bursar was, however, overheard saying that "there were a lot of drunks around college... what we're trying to do is get the drunks out." Where will the students be sleeping from now on, we wonder? Christ Church, perhaps?
