Oxford for Sale
Jim Rosenthal is poised to make a bid to take over Oxford United from current Chairman Firoz Kassam. Rosenthal, a life long Oxford fan, has previously written for the Oxford Mail, and now presents coverage of Formula One, writes Gareth Lyon.
Kassam had previously rejected a bid from a 'Gang of Four' headed by Rosenthal, but has now indicated his willingness to sell the club for only £1. Such a deal would give Rosenthal and fellow co-bidder David Bower control of the Minchery Farm complex, the Oxford United name and the contracts of the players and manager, but would not include the Kassam Stadium, which is contract-bound to be available for professional football for the next 25 years. It is likely, however, that Kassam would increase the rent if he keeps control of the stadium.
