Jesus student found dead
Police are investigating the death of a 27-year-old Oxford University student whose body was discovered in her student accommodation last week.
Police were called to an address in Ship Street at around 5.40pm last Tuesday, after College staff discovered the body of a young woman. She was later named as Ivana Witzova, a postgraduate student at Jesus College.
Post mortem results have yet to be released, but police do not consider the death to be suspicious.
Witzova had a distinguished academic career, with a DPhil from the Czech Republic's Masaryk University in Brno and an MSc from the London School of Economics. She had just completed the first year of her DPhil in the School of Geography.
In a statement released this week, Jesus College Principal Sir Peter North praised Witzova. He said she was: "a great asset to Jesus College". He added: "Our hearts go out to her family at the tragic loss of such an able and engaging young scholar."
